West Lodge Rural Centre

The Dee family have been farming at West Lodge for three generations. Harold and Millie Dee farmed in Leicestershire in the mid 1930’s, they went on to buy West Lodge Farm in 1964. Harold’s only son, Tony and his wife Margaret took on the running of the farm in 1966.

The Rural Centre was opened in 1995 by Tony and Margaret’s son, Ed. The children’s day nursery was set up in 2003 by Ed’s wife, Mo. The farm is managed today by Tony, Ed, Mo and Ryan Thompson who joined the farm team in 1997.

West Lodge’s mission is to share their enthusiasm for the countryside where children and adults of all ages can have hands on experiences of farm and country life. The farm has won conservation awards and continues to manage and protect the 540 acre site.

A visit to West Lodge gives you the opportunity to explore the whole farm, the livestock (animals) the woods, the fields, the streams and the machinery. Visitors can also handle the rabbits and guinea pigs in cuddle corner, take a pony ride, watch the very popular piglet race or play in the adventure playground. A full list of our activities can be found on the timetables below.

We have a range of walks and nature trails around the farm. They may take you to The Witch’s House or the Troll Bridge or for those feeling more energetic you may want to venture down to the Monks Dam where you can enjoy a picnic next to the stream.
